For those who don't or have never heard of it, the Fear series of games was something unique in the market. These Psychological horror titles put you in the role of a new army recruit with superpower-they were a unique blend of action game tropes with Japanese-inspired scares. While the series is in a deep coma right now, its influence can be felt very clearly in Trepang2, a spiritual successor, in all of the chaotic ways you'd hope. Sound enticing? Well, you can grab it at a ridiculously low price right now, to the point it feels like stealing.
Like many Trepang2 makes you almost overpowered. You can slow down time with the press of a button, or disappear amidst the rain of bullets using the cloaking ability, but Trepang2's foes are great at putting up a fight, and will take any chance to overwhelm you.
The game puts you in the role of an escaped soldier who suffers from amnesia, which closely mirrors the premise of the Fear series. As a mysterious group breaks you out from a heavily guarded blacksite in this indie game, you'll quickly realize that there's a threat more dangerous than you, and you'll need to survive in order to uncover the truth.
Though for me, the narrative isn't what makes Trepang2 special. What I love is the horror game, which together create a captivating experience. You'll fight supernatural forces, monstrous creations, and of a cult, with plenty of fodder enemies you can explode into a flurry of guts and gore or use as shields for your protection – best of all, once you're done with them, you can throw them with a grenade at other enemies for extra damage.

Trepang2 effortlessly nails the balance between chaotic, fast-paced shooter action and levels filled with dread. Between the confetti of destruction in your wake and the pressing mystery at hand, it remains one of my favorite PC games in recent years.
If you're looking for something original in the FPS genre, you can grab Trepang2 for just $12.89 right now at Fanatical, a huge 57% discount. However, you'll want to be as fast as the protagonist you'll embody, as this deal only lasts until Monday, June 2, 2025.
It's a great game if you're a fan of the PC games if you want to keep tabs on the big FPS games of tomorrow.
